Project Summary

Instructed to complete works for a large main contractor, Glazing Refurbishment removed over 100 glazed panels as part of a major refurbishment and upgrade works to Waterloo International Train Station, London.

Utilising a City Crane, our glazing operatives connected the suction lifter to the external face of the glazing and removed the required glazing panes.

Project Challenges

Conducting the multiple glass panel removals, our operatives commenced with the removal of the bracing tie rods and transported down to ground level for disposal. The sites difficult access to make contact with the glazed panels which required removal resulted in a Spider Crane with manipulator head being used alongside our glazing operatives to secure and remove the panels.

The GR Solution

To commence with works, our glazing operatives raked out and removed all of the existing weather seals between the glazed panels. Once removed, technicians then conducted the installation of isolation to the perimeter of the glass edges to ensure that the surrounding panels are protected from glass to glass contact during the removal works. The system patch fittings were then removed from the system and manoeuvred to ground level.

During the glass removal works, a section requiring removal was located overhead, in a difficult to access location, and required our Abseil Technicians to access the glazing face. Conducting the numerous glass removals, our Abseil Technicians begun with the removal of the bracing tie rods and transported down to ground level for disposal. Utilising a City Crane, our glazing operatives connected the suction lifter to the external face of the glazing and removed the required glazing panes, bringing them down to ground level for disposal.

Upon project completion, our team handed over the site back to the main contractor so they could continue with the refurbishment and upgrade works to the train station.
